Finding Your Contemporary Style and Color with Encaustic

You will explore working with encaustic paint with an emphasis on color and your unique expression. We will work with a warm and a cool palette focusing on color relationships and color mixing. There will be something for everyone!  I will discuss ideas to paint contemporary  paintings from reference photos working in a series to create a new body of work. Through this process, you will discover your own preferred subject matter.  We will cover translucent and opaque color to refine your own vision of expression. I will give you prompts as support for you to connect with your work so that are expressing yourself through your art.

Gel Monotypes as Collage in Wax

Create translucent monotype prints using oil on Gelli plates as collage for mixed-media paintings.  You will learn to transform these prints into layered paintings using R&F oil pigment sticks as “ink”. We will cover design elements which will help you develop your unique style. Further reveal and define your voice through transparent layers. We will focus on content and how to approach printmaking with an intuitive perspective. We will also talk about finishing a painting and feeling complete with it using the “Five Minutes to Finish” approach I use with my own work.
